Fantasy Football Instant Player Score Update Notification

Fantasy Football Instant Player Score Update Notification

It’s finally here in the US; football season. This also means fantasy football. While I love using the ESPN app, they have not yet provided *instant player score update notifications. Because of this I decided to take matters into my own hands using Tasker. Continue reading in order to have your own ESPN or YAHOO Fantasy Football Instant Player Score Update Notifications.

History

Like I stated above, my fantasy football league has always used ESPN. It’s great for managing my team at any time just as YAHOO is. Furthermore, all the features of managing one’s team are available in the Android App. It wasn’t until a few years back where the user began to receive a summary notification for their and their opponent’s totals after each round of games. It is a nice touch and to date the feature remains. Though there is one feature I’ve always wanted; instant or near instant player score updates. At the time of this post, I unfortunately do not have that feature.

ESPN Fantasy Football Instant Player Score Update Notification Project Features

Truth be told, I originally created this very feature using complicated variable splits from an HTTP Get Tasker Action. Check out my original G+ post here. I was proud of it. With the most recent Tasker plugins being so powerful, I resurrected the project from the grave!

ESPN Fantasy Football Instant Player Score Update Notification Features include the following:

  • NEW for V3: Refresh button to update your notification instantly between update intervals
  • NEW for V3: Update Toggle Type button to switch between receiving updates for all players’ scores or only changed player scores every update
  • NEW for V3: Update shows score difference since previous update
  • Notification matches ESPN color scheme
  • Notifications received are only during NFL games for all day Sundays, Monday night games, and Thursday Night games
  • *Updates are every 15 minutes but configurable (Tasker will only allow 2 minutes to be the shortest interval time)
  • Individual player score update, only if it changed from the previous update by default
  • Receive your and your opponent’s total score at every notification, even if there are no player score changes
  • Contains familiar ESPN sound upon notification “DaDaDa DaDaDa”
  • Clicking the notification opens your ESPN Fantasy Football App
  • Works for 9-player teams (QB, RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, TE, FLEX, K, D/ST) but can easily be modified for larger league teams (contact me to help)
  • View notifications on an Android Wear device

While I enjoy receiving the nice summary notification after each round of games, that wasn’t enough for me. However, I wanted updates as they happened, or as close to instant as I could get. Because of this, I created and enjoy my Fantasy Football Instant Player Score Update Notification Project using the latest Tasker plugins. Hope you guys enjoy it for this season and future seasons!

Note: Please let me know what you guys think in the comments below! Do you use it? I can also modify this Tasker Project for Fantasy Basketball or any other Fantasy sport. If you would like to me do so, give me a shout below!

  1. I’m new to Tasker, is there any way you resurrect this automation once again to work with the current version of Tasker that uses profiles not projects so the newer users can enjoy it as much as you have.

    Thanks

  2. Hey there! Are you by chance still in beginner mode? It sounds that way since you do not have access to Tasker Projects. Check out the post I made regarding getting out of Beginner Mode and unlock some cool features! Enjoy and let me know if you need anything else!

  3. I FREAKING love this. So, what if I wanted to simply have a persistent notification that is continually updated showing the full roster of scores, not just the ones that changed from the last notification. Is that an easy change?

  4. Hi Ty! First of all thank you for the donation!

To answer your question yes, it is easily modifiable. Check out this version especially made for you HERE. NOTE I will only keep this link available in for the next 24 hours because there are features that I have not yet released. I will be releasing an update to the project with these features hopefully soon but for now, enjoy! Just download, unzip, and follow the same steps you did when you downloaded the project HERE

  5. Thanks Rory. Looks like a pretty significant change to v2 you have linked. Got to test it out tonight. Worked like a charm. I love tasker but dont have much of a coding background so a lot of it’s features and abilities are completely foreign to me. I dont think I would have ever been able to accomplish such a project. I am going to use it to try to learn and understand what all the pieces mean and what they are doing.

  6. Awesome! Glad it worked for you! Yeah, I’ll be releasing some of those changes along with a few others after I try some testing during this sunday’s games! Definitely try to reverse engineer it and learn some stuff; and of course I’ll be here to help if you have questions. Have fun! Have you checked out any other projects?

  7. Ok, I took the link down. I can hopefully update the post before Sunday’s games! I have some additional features beyond what you currently have. Stay tuned!

  8. Yes I have. You have a number of good ones. I like your tutorials too. I have a list of tasker projects on my to do list of things I’d like to do. I’m still a long way’s off from most of them due to my lack of ability, but with time hopefully I’ll figure it out. If you need any ideas of things that might be neat to do for your site, I’d be happy to share them with you. 🙂

  9. Nice! Thanks for the offer. I could definitely use your point of view! Also, I released V3 a few minutes ago! but the above version does not have your persistent notification so don’t worry about downloading it.

By the way if you are looking for a way to keep a list of *anything* (even future Tasker Projects) check this out: AutoTools Web Screen Checklist Manager

    Enjoy!

What did you think???
